We hiked on a Friday mid August and there were at least 5 groups hiking up to overnight. Still one of my favorite hikes. This was a great hike up to a beautiful glacier fed lake. A few downed trees across the trail but nothing major. We stopped numerous times and didn’t encounter another car at any point on the drive. Worth it. Be prepared to have your breath taken away, as you get your first glimpse of the mountains and glaciers that flank this spectacular lake. super mellow & not too steep. Colors indicate trail is missing specified detail. Road to trailhead is typical forestry road, had a rock take out a tire for me on the drive back to town, make sure you have a spare with you. Gorgeous the whole way but slow going. The return hike wasn’t exactly easy due to some of the steep sections. This stretch went on for a while and was the hardest part of the trail for us due to elevation gain. Caution: the road narrows because of a washout about a kilometre from the trailhead. Two hours later down a backcountry dirt road and we were there: a tiny trailhead tucked deep in the heart of the Purcells. One of the routes we wanted to do was the well-established trail to Lake of the Hanging Glacier. This stretch is one of the highlights of the hike, the creek at this point looks like a kilometre long waterfall as it rushes down the mountain.
